Line 6 and Topspin Media present WHAT’S NEXT Musicians’ Conference in London.
Line 6, Inc. and Topspin Media are joining forces with other leading music and technology companies to present the WHAT’S NEXT Musicians’ Conference, a series of free events that will allow musicians to explore the ideas, trends and technologies that are impacting music today. Featuring panel discussions with industry experts, live artist performances, breakout sessions, music technology demos and more, WHAT’S NEXT will empower musicians to take control of their future—and chart their own path to success.
WHAT’S NEXT conferences are scheduled to take place in London, Los Angeles, Tokyo and New York City. The London event will be on 6th July at Music Bank. Used by the likes of Jimmy Page, Noel Gallagher and Corinne Bailey Rae, Music Bank is a world renowned suite of rehearsal studios in south London, and is an ideal environment for discussion and workshops around improving live performance.
That’s right, the wait is over! Welcome to the third and final part of my ‘Guitarists Dreams Can Come True’ series of blogs.
In the unlikely event that you haven’t already read the previous two parts of this blog series on the Line 6 M20d smart mixer and L3t/m advanced PA speakers, you can find them here:
Part 1 from March 2013
Part 2 from April 2013
In this third instalment I will shift focus a little to satisfy the guitarist within me, and look more closely at using a POD HD with L3t/m speakers. As I’m combining part DreamStage with part DreamRig, I will refer to this as DreamStig and will detail some steps to help you get up and running with your own DreamStig in only a few minutes.
After reading the first instalment in this series of blogs on the Line 6 M20d smart mixer, you’ll hopefully have managed to pick up your jaw off the floor. Sure the M20d is ‘only’ a mixer, but its features are so advanced yet intuitive and useful, that it’s surprising someone else hadn’t made something similar before now. But to Line 6′s credit, they recognised this and in true Line 6 style, are the first to the party.
In this 2nd part of my series of guitarists point of view blogs on the Line 6 Dream Stage, I’ll be looking closely at 2 similar products: The StageSource L3t and L3m. The two actually share some of the same features, with the L3t having a few extra features over the L3m, such as built in FX, EQ and dedicated instrument/mic inputs, plus an additional £100 price tag (£849 online for the L3t and £749 online for the L3m).
If you’re a regular visitor to Rowbinet, the free StageScape M20d firmware update (v1.0 to v1.1) will be no surprise to you.
I’d had a little issue where I’d updated to v1.1 and it had wiped all my setups that I had not backed up. I didn’t get any warning of this, and luckily I only had a couple of setups to recreate. This video shows you the whole process of how to backup to an external SD card (the process is the same for a UDB flash drive or USB HDD), update your M20d, and then restore your settings.
Remember to select the settings button (the small cog bottom right of the video) once it’s started and choose to watch in 720 HD. This will make the video much clearer, so you can more easily follow the tutorial.
As a guitarist, I’m not usually too bothered by mixers or PA gear, but when the Line 6 Dream Stage was released it really caught my eye. My initial reaction was that the price point of the mixer was a little too high for my needs, but when you actually sit down with one even for a short time, you really start to understand how much it can do for you and why it’s well worth every penny of the £1449 it currently sells for online in the UK.
I received this mailshot from Line 6 yesterday. I think there are some fantastic products coming out of the R&D department at Line 6 these days! smaller active PA speakers, with a proprietory input for POD HDs (as well as the usual PA inputs). But it’s ideal for plug and play with your POD HD 300/400/500 or Pro (with Line 6 Link output).
Then there’s the awesome JTV89, but with a Floyd Rose!
And lastly the M20d software update (yes a free one) that gives you some great new recording features, better WiFi management and monitoring options.

All you need to know is that Christmas has come 2 months early! With Line 6 already releasing the POD HD updates recently, now it’s the turn of the DT Series of amplifiers to get some serious love with firmware v2.0 bringing some great new features.
Now there are all POD HD amp models (30 increased from 4), some other configurable amp parameters, 12 reverb models, 17 selectable cab models (including no cab). These are all configurable via MIDI, so if you would prefer not to have these extra options, that’s fine too, as the original features and ease of use will still be there.
With this update the DT50 you can now use the direct output when in standby mode (which was already there on the DT25).
