Line 6 POD HD500X First Play

POD HD (same as HD500)

That’s right faithful readers and Line 6 fans, I have a lovely new POD HD500X that Line 6 have kindly loaned me to do some product reviews…

It only landed on my doorstep yesterday, and the first thing I wanted to try was to compare the more powerful POD HD500X to a POD HD500 or POD HD Bean (both the HD bean and HD500 have the same processing power and I have the HD bean to hand so that’s what I’ll use).

Above is a preset I created on the POD HD500X (above top picture).  Then the lower of the 2 above pictures is as far as I got on the POD HD Bean.  The next effect I tried to add on the HD bean was the 63 Spring Reverb, and I got the DSP over limit warning.  Now I do appreciate that this isn’t a full test, it’s just me creating a preset in the order that I usually do it, and that’s as far as I got.  For reference: I usually add amps, then delay(s) and then reverb.  Perhaps adding the FX in another order would mean I can add more less DSP intensive FX to the POD HD bean preset before the DSP limit is reached (as the 63 Spring Reverb is well known to use a large amount of DSP processing resources), but that’s a test for another day.

Guitarists Dreams Can Come True! Part 1 – Line 6 StageScape M20d Review

As a guitarist, I’m not usually too bothered by mixers or PA gear, but when the Line 6 Dream Stage was released it really caught my eye. My initial reaction was that the price point of the mixer was a little too high for my needs, but when you actually sit down with one even for a short time, you really start to understand how much it can do for you and why it’s well worth every penny of the £1449 it currently sells for online in the UK.

Delayed Reaction – Line 6 DL4 vs TC Electronic Flashback X4 Shootout

Delays are often sworn about and can on occasion be the cause of a monumentus pain in the ass.  I am of course describing delays to us going about our daily lives. Be it traffic jams, late public transport, or our children throwing up all over themselves and us, moments before we are due to leave for work.  But not all delays are bad.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…

Line 6 Mobile POD – Mobile In demo track

Following on from my review of the Line 6 Mobile In and Mobile POD earlier in the year, I’ve recorded a short demo track showing how well the Mobile In audio interface for iPhone/iPad works, and how good the amp simulations in Mobile POD sound.

For this demonstration I used the Brit Hi-Gain amp model (Which I think is inspired by a Marshall JCM800.  I added delay and reverb using POD Farm 2.5 as a plug-in within my recording software, as I wanted some stereo delay and reverb (neither of which are included in Mobile POD at the moment).  Hopefully more FX will be released soon though, as it’s certainly benefitted from the recent update where you can play from your iTunes library directly in Mobile POD now!  Which now makes it my favourite home rehearsal tool, as well as something I always keep in my gigbag when I’m gigging, just in case I need a quick and easy backup rig!
